Edmond Yon

1836-1907

He was born and died in Paris and spent most of his life working there.

His subject matter centred around the landscape- he would add animals, people, coastlines or sometimes just present the scenery as the main subject.

During his long career he was also known for his watercolours, pastels, engravings and his illustration work.

He was a pupil of Pouget and later of Lequien.

He first appeared at the Paris Salon in 1865, and from then on obtained medals in the following years :- 1872, 1875, 1878 and 1879. In 1889 he was awarded a medal in the “L’Expositon Universelle” and then was knighted in 1886.

He is represented in the following museums: Amiens, Anvers, Arras, Bayonne, Calais, Chateau-Thierry, Compiegne, Draguignan, Lille, Louviers, Mulhouse, Montreal, Paris, Perigueux, Soissons and Tourcoing.

His illusrations were used by Victor Hugo for “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” and his engravings included work by Millet and Corot.
