Felix Dominique De Vuillefroy

1841-1910

He was a French painter of landscapes, figures and animals.

Paris born Vuillefroy studied under Leon Bonnat and Ernest Hebert. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais where he was awarded a medal in 1870 and a second class medal in 1875; he became a member in 1882 and was knighted in 1880, winning a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.

His preferred subject matter were animals, as opposed to landscapes,and he used a rich palette. He often played with the effects of half light on the landscapes of the Camargue,the Morvan,Fontainebleau,Normandy,Spain and Switzerland.

Many museums throughout France display his work including Amiens, Le Mans, Rheims, Paris and Lyons.
