George Adolphus Storey

1834-1919

The painter George Adolphus Storey was born in London, but educated in Paris where he studied under Dulong.

When he returned to London, he worked for an architect for a time before entering the art school run by J. M. Leigh. Following this, he entered the RA Schools in 1854, where he fell under the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites .

He worked in North London, establishing a reputation as a genre and portrait painter, and also as an illustrator, with quite elegant pictures of middle class people drawn for love stories and similar.

He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1876, and Royal Academician in 1914. From 1900, he was also the Professor of Perspective at the Royal Academy.
