Charles Francois Pecrus

Born in Limoges, France, 1826 – Died in Paris, 1907.

Charles Pecrus exhibited in the salons of Paris in 1857 and 1905.

After studying with Fichel he became the pupil of Javet and specialised in painting portraits, genre scenes, animals, landscapes and seascapes.

He painted in Normandy alongside and collaborating with the famous Narcisse Diaz de la Pena from the school of Barbizon and with Eugene Boudin and Jean-Barthold Jongkind.

Like Boudin, Pecrus is solidly represented in the Museum of Honfleur. His paintings also hang in the Louvre, Reims, Limoges, and the Museum of Cherbourg – to name just a few. In a long and productive career he went on exhibiting genre paintings at the Paris Salon from 1857 to 1905!

During Pecrus’ lifetime the Emperor Napoleon III bought one of his paintings. It was a genre subject, purchased at the Salon of 1865.
