Paul Louis Grolleron

1840-1901

He was born in Seigmelay (Yonne) and specialised in painting military subjects, portraits, genre scenes and still life subjects.

Grolleron was taught by Leon Bonnat and showed his work at the Paris Salon from 1873. With his military subjects he achieved success and the public also appreciated his historical subjects, notably A Reunion in 1870-a detachment of French infantry; Seated fantassin; Defending the road; Fight within a factory within Paris CityWalls and Soldier of the first Empire on ground.

He died in October 1901 leaving behind a fine body of work and some important artistic glimpses of history.
