Marcel Arnaud 1877-1956

He was born on October 8th at Marseilles and died on March 18th at Aix-en-Provence.

He was a painter of landscapes, still lives and portraits.

Arnaud’s formal art education started at the School of Fine Art at Marseilles. He went on to further his education at Paris and it was there that he found his niche in art decoration.

Later in life he returned to Aix-en-Provence and became a professor and later principal of the School of Fine Art there. He was also curator at the Granet Museum from 1917 to 1947.

Amongst many other appearances his work was featured in the collective exhibition “Au Fil de l’Eau: Provencale (Going with the Flow: The Provencal School) at the Museum of Tapisseries in Aix-en-Provence.

A book has been written on him entitled “Marcel Arnaud- peintre de Provence 1877-1956” by Henri Feyt and Jean-Marc Pontier.
