Manuel Barthold was born 9th September 1874 in Moscow, Russia and died in 1947 in Montevideo Uruguay. He became a naturalised Frenchman but always remained an American.
Lived at 65 Avenue Niel, Paris in 1923.
Painter of portraits and also compositions of character figures
He arrived in Paris and in 1894 studied under J-P Laurens at Fernand Cormon. In 1904 he obtained first medal in the second class at salon des Artistes Francais, he continued to enter into competitions until he achieved his goal of achieving an medal in honours in 1926.
In 1905 he had an exhibition at de liege. Some of the pieces that exhibited were Fillette Raccommodant, Portrait de Juan Antonio Zubillaga.
He then started to travel and found that it was not easy to produce portraits so his work started to take on a new perspective and his work became more impressionistic.
His art work paid for his passage to Holland, Spain and Latin America.
