Charles Malfroy

Born: 27 May 1862, 3rd arrondissement, Lyon, France
Died: 21 July 1939 (age 77 years), Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, France

Charles Malfroy was a painter of seascapes. More specifically Malfroy had an instantly recognisable style and he spent most of his career painting coastal scenes and Mediterranean ports from Bouches-du-Rhone to the Var.

Henry Malfroy (or Malfroy-Savigny) painted similar subject matter to Charles in a similar style and their work is sometimes confused. It is widely thought that Henry was the son of Charles.

He was a prolific artist and his work is held in many private collections throughout the world-typical titles were “Small Harbour on the inland sea at Berre” and “Fishing boats in Martigues Harbour” (both oil on canvas).
