Herman Maurice Cossman

Cossman was a German artist but during his lifetime he became a French citizen.

He was born in Berlin in 1821 and died in Paris in 1890.

Cossmann specialised in painting genre scenes and he was a notable engraver also. He studied under Eugene Lepoitevin who was also renowned for his interior studies. His work was so highly regarded by his contemporaries that it was chosen for the opening of the Paris Salon in 1845.

Cossman is described in the Benezit Dictionary of European Artists of having a virtuoso touch with his beautiful interiors.

His work can be seen in museums throughout France.
