History:
The Rococo style evolved as a reaction against the High Baroque and flourished in the 1730’s. In this period the heavy Louis XIV organic forms were refined into delicate, sinuous and flamboyant decorations. A prime example is the Louis XV frame style named after this monarch. The most important elements in Rococo design were elegance, grace, charm and curving naturalistic decoration.
This frame is in gold leaf and has a silk slip and was recently used to frame a Claude Monet.
