History:
The Tondo frame,or round frame. In its most accurate usage, the term refers to any artwork created in a circular format but, over the years, it has become an understood allusion to the surrounding frame. It has its origins in Italy. This design emanates from the reign of Louis XIII where the most common organic motifs were oak or laurel leaves bordered by ribbons, husks or leaf tips. This frame has a leaf sight edge with an acanthus top edge.
