3.25 Georgian TT
Width: 3.25"
Category: Traditional frames
Type: Neo-classical , Georgian
History:
This basic scotia frame, varied by the addition or subtraction of decorative elements, was one of two main styles used by Turner throughout his career. It is a version of the late 18th century NeoClassical or ‘Morland’ frame, so-called because it is frequently found on paintings by the artist George Morland. The deep hollow or scotia is a device for focusing attention upon the image and enhancing its perspective, whilst also helping to reflect light onto the surface of the painting.
