Oval Flemish

Width: 4"

Category: Traditional frames

Type: Running Pattern , Louis XIII

History:

The Tondo frame,or round frame. In its most accurate usage, the term refers to any artwork created in a circular format but, over the years, it has become an understood allusion to the surrounding frame. It  has its origins in Italy. Earliest known examples are from the Pre-Italian Renaissance (13th century). This design emanates from the reign of Louis XIII where the most common organic motifs were oak or laurel leaves bordered by ribbons, husks or leaf tips.  This frame has a ribbon twist with a leaf and acorn top edge.
