Biography of Artist

1843-1885

He was born in Halle and studied at the Brussels Academy after his studies he decided to stay and work in Brussels from 1864 until his death in 1885. He specialised in painting sheep with ducks and poultry and his work is instantly recognisable. Although through his short career he very much found his own style, he was clearly influenced by Eugene Verboeckhoven. It is also of note that considering his untimely death at the age of 42 the number of paintings he produced in his life.

A great number of his paintings were exported to the United States and his work can be seen in museums in Denver (Colorardo) and New York. His paintings often come up in auction and feature in many private collections throughout the world.
