William MELLOR
This artist sometimes used the pseudonym Alexander Williams and he exhibited from1867 to 1910.
Mellor was a landscape, rustic and genre painter who was born in Barnsley in 1851.Although he travelled widely through the UK he always lived and worked in Yorkshire. He is known to have lived in Ilkley, Scarborough and Harrogate.
He was elected an Associate of the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1884 and a full Member in 1891

His work is always wonderfully observed and his painting, described as ‘peaceful’ used mainly reds, earthy ochres and greens which gave his finished canvases a soft, natural appeal.
