Charles Martin-Sauvaigo

Biography of Artist


Born 1881

He was born on 7th of February at Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) in France.

He painted marines, landscapes and did a number of interior decorations in public and private buildings. His paintings were executed in a post-impressionist style.

He was a pupil of Bonnat and later Merson and remained in Paris after his studies, showing his work from 1910 in the Salon of French Artists- where he obtained an honourable mention and the Savoie medal in 1913. Following this he received a bronze medal in 1921 and a money prize in 1923.

During his career he became renowned for his marine painting and received the Paul Liot prize in 1925- followed by a knighthood towards the end of his career.
