Johannes Karel LEURS

1865-1938

He was a painter of landscapes, landscapes with figures and animals.

Leurs painted in the Dutch tradition in a post impressionist style- using the contrasts of light and shade to great effect and broad expressive brushstrokes.

He used oil on canvas and also signed his name Hendrik Johannes on occasions.

Typical titles of his work include; “Figure in a boat by a Dutch farmhouse”, “Cattle at Waters edge” and “Changing pastures”.
