Samuel John Lamorna Birch

Biography of Artist

1869 - 1955
He was a landscape painter born in Egremont.
Lived in Broughton, Lancashire in 1889, Manchester in 1892, St.Buryan, Cornwall in1898 and Penzance, Cornwall from 1903.
He worked in the mills in Manchester and Lancaster and painted in his spare time.
After a short period of study in Paris he worked with Stanhope Forbes at Newlyn. ‘St.Ives, Cornwall’ was purchased by Chantrey Bequest in 1938.
He became an ARA in 1926, a full RA in 1934, and a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours 1914.
