Pierre BILLET

1837-1922

This French artist was born in Cantin (Nord) and studied under Jules and Emile Breton.

Billet painted genre scenes, landscapes and was an accomplished and original engraver. He enjoyed immersing himself in the culture he painted, in particular that of peasant life.

He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1867. He won a third class medal in 1873 and a second class the following year.

His work is represented in the museums of Bordeaux, Lille, London (Victoria and Albert Museum) and Paris (Museum of Luxembourg).
